January
I read a line framing memory as a way to collapse the distance between two places. When I’m pouring coffee in the mornings, I can see my neighbour’s framed map of New York City in their hallway.
Conversations I’ve had this week:
Rice cookers
Apartment ventilation during damp weather
How people taught themselves another language
Reading print (because it develops spatial memory) vs digital reading
The woman in front of me at the store was carrying The Tibetan Book of the Dead. I know this because she loudly announced it at the checkout. It reminded me of a note on my phone: part of growing up was realising which conversations not to have in order to move forward.
Class schedule
Monday 6pm (CET) — Online, The Studio
Tuesday 5pm (CET) — Online, Sky Ting
Wednesday 6pm (CET) — Online, The Studio
Tuesday classes at Sky Ting are new. On Saturday 7 Feb, I’ll also be teaching online as a BFF of Tenon Movement. You can find all the details here.
Seasonal Series
My Winter Series has just ended: longer-form teaching, slower pace, staying in conversation rather than rushing towards resolution. Over four weeks, we explored winter’s theory, metaphors, and how each of us was staying in the game.
Registration is open for my Spring Series.
Retreat
If you’re thinking about coming on retreat this spring, we’re going to Tuscany from May 24 to 30.
This morning, I was reading The Wisdom of Insecurity by Alan Watts, where he writes about our “quest for psychological security” and the way it keeps us from presence, steadiness, and love.
My husband and I feel fairly despondent about the current state of TV, so we’re working our way through a list of film recommendations. This week, we’re watching The Worst Person in the World.
Over the holidays, I had a conversation about teaching, language, yoga, and attention — listen to it here:
Chat soon,
Ty
