February
The older man in front of me was carrying his book behind his back: La métaphysique comme science transcendantale (or Metaphysics as Transcendental Science). People have finally stopped suggesting I watch Heated Rivalry. The man at the press agent I frequent refused to scan the code and repeated, “I’m listening,” until I practiced my French numbers with him. I saw a woman sitting at a cafe eating a litchi. I learned that France’s national fruit is a pear.
I’ve been reading about the way that English turns processes into things. We define an object and forget the relationships that made it possible. When we look at something, we’re mostly seeing the word for it. Things are the actions that created them.
The Spring Series I am teaching next season is slower, without the intensity of training. We meet weekly to practice and study the season through the elements, metaphor, yoga, and literature. Our first meeting is at the end of April. There is still space.

I’m currently reading Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, a novel set in a Tokyo café where customers are able to travel back in time, as long as they return before their coffee gets cold.

Berlin
I’m headed to Berlin this March. If you have recommendations — bookstores, ceramics, menswear — please send them my way.
